My Plan CHANGED | Striped Bass Fishing on Lake Anna, Virgina
I was planning on doing some bass fishing this morning for a few hours, but after spotting a few schools of Striped Bass breaking on the surface, my plan changed. I decided to continue throwing my topwater Spook to breaking fish hoping for that epic topwater explosion. I managed to get a few awesome topwater strikes and even managed a nice keeper size Striper for some good eating later on in the week. Hope you enjoy watching this great day of fishing on Lake Anna, Virginia

The top part that you used to attach to the fishfinder base looks different. At least the link you posted for it had a different one shown.
Oh, I see what you are talking about..so I already mounted the Garmin Striker Base to the top circle plate. If you look close at 1:31 you can see the Ram Base under the Garmin Striker Base.
Now that’s a video 👌
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed
Just got my Striker Plus 4 and watching your videos. On my Frequency screen I only see "Chrip, 150kHz, 200kHz, or 240kHz". I don't see anything for a CHIRP200.
What transducer are you using? I believe it should be Chirp 77, Chirp 200, 77, and 200 options.
This is good, but I do not know what the injector pin is or what it looks like.
at 3:59, you can see it is facing the injector...I also use the small looking dot directly across that you can see between 2 bolts as a reference.
@@1Cast1Fish /Thank you. I will look in the morning and let you know. I have a 75 etcch motor, 3 cylinder. Thanks again.
I thought about buying a 250 that’s for sale on marketplace near me because it’s pretty cheap. I have an old mercury black max and it’s pretty hearty on fuel so that would be my reason for getting an E tec. Are they worth buying these days? I’m just worried about tech-support and parts.
Can u do most or all the maintenance yourself? Do you have a shop that will touch it? If yes and it’s a heck of a good deal and low hours… get it checked out and might be worth it if it’s good to go. If you don’t have a shop or can’t do maintenance yourself…honestly you may want to stay clear…not because they are bad motors… they are great. But you will need extra support and it’s getting harder and harder to find shops who will mess with them.
@@1Cast1Fish Yes I am an automotive technician by trade but I do all of my marine work myself at the house. We don’t have any local supply stores anymore. One of them closed down a couple months ago so I would have to order all the parts online. I was wondering if injectors and EMM’s were still readily available.
They are to some extent, slight premium on pricing though. They still have a parts network out there, just not as robust as before. There are places that will rebuild the EMM to.
Hi. Does all Etec engines have VTS filter
I don't want to speak wrong as I don't have experience with every model and HP. I would check online for a parts breakdown for your specific model and serial number to be 100% sure.
Will the 4.4ah support the striker 4 vc?
Yes, you should get at least a full day out of it.
I’m not really seeing arches on my returns mostly seeing slanted vertical lines representing fish, I found that out because I turned on the fish icon, I also ran into a school of white bass and could see lines running from the bottom but did not look like arches,
I might be missing something on my settings? Not sure,
Nope not at all, your settings sound great if you are seeing the fish. So the slanted arch's are fish that only slightly entered the sonar cone and then exited...the streak is because they are likely feeding and changing depth rapidly. This is a good thing to see for hungry fish.
@@1Cast1Fish awesome thank you for the help
Bit of an older video, but I was wondering with the contour maps - do I have to have the maps showing in order to record? Or can I record it in the background while having the CHIRP and trad sonar going?
It seems like this is an issue that will happen time and time again unless the new bushings is made of a different material. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks!
Most likely unfortunately, they are easy to replace, but a different approach may be needed in the future
Hey Paul, how you doing? Did you try to put a video? How can you change a pump force motor 85 hp 1988 out board
I do not have any videos showing this unfortunately, sorry I could not help, but hope you are doing well and can find what you are looking for.
It also says its for the Garmin Echo series, is that the same as the Striker 4 series?
I believe so, I believe that it works for both...but not 100% sure, but they share the same base mount.
Hello, As I was watching to see what ram light duty mount you used, I clicked on the link you posted for it and it brought me to the item but it didnt have the same attachment on as the one you have. The attachment you have on it in the video, I saw that that comes with the garmin kit itself. Did you just swap out the attachments for both the top and bottom?
I used the top to mount to the fishfinder base, I removed the bottom so I can attach it to a 1" ball mount on the kayak rail.
Nice work , looked lovely out there
I was a great morning…perfect weather
Nice to see you out there having fun!
You bet, it’s great to get out on the water and catch a few.
Thank you for this, just got a used one and you taught me how useful it can be
Awesome, enjoy and good luck
Enjoyable video! 👍 What has been your favorite colors on the spook lure for landlocked striped bass? What size braid would you recommend for this size of fish?
I prefer a natural color, but the fish don't see the top.;lol I try to find ones with a silver or white bottom mostly as they tend to look like a baitfish when viewed from beneath. I like 30lb braid, it casts great and is thick enough not to bite down on itself on the spool. Only thing with braid is the need to be a bit softer on hooksets and landing fish due to the zero stretch. (It's easier to pull the hooks out IMO)
@@1Cast1Fish thanks!!
Nice video
Thank you, hope u are doing well
when I hit add it only shows add new layout, numbers and flasher, does not show Data Graphs?
Is it by chance already on the Home Screen?
What rod and reel ?
This is a Pflueger Patriarch and an old Carrot Stix MH Rod. Both are about 12-14 years old...LOL so no longer made
Hello Paul, love your videos. I just purchased a Kawasaki jet ski and want to install a good fish finder/gps without having to drill any holes in it. What would you recommend? Thanks
I have never done a jetski install, so I don't want to steer you wrong, I would look up some videos of a jetski install and see what others are doing. I would think there would be a way to do it without holes.
Tks for share this information i decides to chose 4 plus thanks so much
Good choice

How do you find the thermocline in the water column with a striker 4 vivid?
So first you have to have a thermocline...many bodies of water do not. Next it will look like a thin line of clutter in the water column and many times you will see increased clutter below this line as well but not always. Fish should be above the thermocline.
@@1Cast1Fish almost all lake where i fish have a thermocline. Im in WA. And i fish for Kokanee(land lock salmon). So being able to find the thermocline is important.
Do you have an issue on video while it's happening? Mine shakes violently when it has a little bit of weeds on it 😢.
I would call Garmin if under warranty...mine did not shake alot, but a buddy of mine had one that did...ended up replacing the whole mount to solve issue. If it does not do it when in open water, it may just be the weeds have it off balance. My buddies shook all the time.
@@1Cast1Fish dang man thank you. I appreciate your reply!
I'm going to the Capitol for 4th of July. Are there any good snakehead fishing spots (or coves) near to kayak fish? I know that the Potomac River has concrete banks in DC, but I'm looking for snakeheads via kayak.
Honestly I stay as far away from DC as possible...LOL How far south are you willing to drive? Plenty of spots down here around Stafford and Fredericksburg I can help with.
@@1Cast1Fish I see it's on the map of the area I'm looking at. It's just an hour south of the Capitol Grounds, which is not all that far, barring traffic.
how long would a swift kayak trip be from dc to stafford, i wonder. I can get picked up there, but it might be too rushed to fish along the way.
You mean floating from DC down?
@@1Cast1Fish That's what I was thinking, but it might be wiser to do a shorter float, and "stay out of the city"
I just ordered a Striker plus 4. I already had a Nocqua 4.4 mah. Would ou happen to have a rough idea on how long that would last out on the water? If' I got half, or just under half, the time you showed in this video that wouldl be great!
I would expect just under half of what I got with the 10Ah
Great information. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Nice video,thanks for your help!
Glad it helped!
Is the any sound volume you can set when its marking fish
Settings > Alarms > Sonar > Fish This will give you 3 options for alarms, however the alarm volume is not able to be adjusted.
Your videos are so incredibly helpful. Hopefully not a dumb question, but if I have two fishfinders - let's call my main boat FF1 and second boat FF2 - and I have useful/desired waypoints on both, and I just want to "merge" them basically on both units, is that what happens using the process you describe in the video? Or will FF1 overwrite FF2 if I connect them like your scenario 1 in the video? I'm hoping not to overwrite, but basically keep them both in sync every few months.
They do not overwrite, but you must be sure the FF's are compatible for data transfer.
Great video! You mentioned the fish close to the bottom get blend with bottom structures, I think that's why I didn't see bottom fish on my striker 7sv. I will turn on AScope to see how it helps. Could you please share more tips on how to find fish close to the bottom on my fish finder? I normally do bottom fishing and sometimes I know for sure there are fishes under my kayak, however I didn't see them on fish finder. Thanks very much!
A-Scope will be helpful, but also play around with colors and see if one makes them pop out more than another. Also adjusting your gain/sensitivity manually can also help sometimes.
I will try these methods, Thanks!
Dude wtf. I wanted to know what size lithium is needed to operate the live scope and screens etc…
Thank yoy for your many videos. They are thoughtfully organized and simply presented. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much, glad you have enjoyed
Very interesting I’m sure they will end up here in my area eventually
They seem to be spreading, I love them though
@@1Cast1Fish very fascinating species
@@Pertfamoutdoors they are fun to catch and taste great
@@1Cast1Fish always down to catch something new and probably would try it.
A+ on your videos man. One other way to fix this at least on my striker 4 plus, as long as it is powered on just push the power button multiple times. Dont hold it down like for power on/off but quick pushes, and it functions like a brightness button. Found it on my phone in an online garmin manual somewhere when this happened to me out on the water. 1 cast 1 fish rock on, and thanks for everything!
That will work also, great additional tip and info Thanks for watching
Just bought the Striker 4. Hopefully it'll help me out in the water 😅
Congrats and good luck out there :)
Looking like a new boat man well done !! Those live wells can get slimy! Hope ya have a damn good weekend man!
Yeah they tend to get pretty nasty sometimes...lol Hope you had a great weekend as well :)
My striker 4 stopped showing depth… replaced transducer but still same problem, maybe u can help.
I am making the assumption that the unit is showing fish and the water column, just not the active depth number. (let me know if this is not the case as it changes things a bit) 1st make sure the depth is turned on in the settings for your overlays I would check all the pins and holes to make sure nothing is broke, bent, or dirty (Both transducer and unit) Possible need to try a factory reset If you still have problems Garmin Warranty and Tech Support is pretty good IMO, also if out of warranty and your not in to big of hurry, I have my units and transducers and we can swap a few parts out and see what happens sometime
Great fishing trip. im taking my sons out on anna later this week to fish for stripers. Where did you get your bait? thanks and tight lines!
I get my bait at Sturgeon Creek Marina, they are the biggest minnows they carry, about $18 a dozen (This is why many catch there own bait) They work very well, and are much easier to keep alive than the shad you catch on the lake. As far as a general location, Sturgeon Creek Marina is great as well, since this last week or so big schools of Striper have been in the main lake right outside of Sturgeon Creek. I would be looking for fish on either side of the 208 Bridge down to the Power Plant. Odds are you will see others Striper fishing these areas as the fish will likely be here through the summer. Good Luck
I have the transducer on the right side of my kayak. When I see fish on my Garmin does that mean the fish are right under my kayak or are they directly behind me?
They are more than likely close to under or just behind. Depends on depth and transducer cone size.
Wow, excellent video!! New subscriber here. Quick question: How do I view the speed of my boat on the Striker 4? Also, I noticed at certain times, my depth display starts to flash. I’m not running at a fast speed and don’t know how to stop the depth number from flashing. Thanks!!!
The speed is able to be shown or hidden in the overlay menu. As far as the depth flashing, I will assume it is while on plane? Depending on boat hull, speed, and transducer location it sounds like you are just losing contact. The transducer may be in a dirty water (turbulent or air bubbles) area, it could be mounted to high, or it just is not making enough water contact due to speed and lift of the hull. Does the depth come back when you slow down? On my boat, when on plane at full speed, the transducer is literally out of the water....so no reading, I use a second in hull mount transducer for on plane depth reading. What type of boat and speeds you running?
@@1Cast1Fish I think you nailed. It does stop flashing when I slow the boat down. I’ll double check again. Also, may I please ask you to walk me through the process for displaying the speed in the overlay menu. I don’t think I’m familiar with the “overlay” menu. Thanks again for providing us with great content!
From a sonar screen, press Menu > Scroll down to Overlay Numbers. Speed: Shows the vessel's current speed.
@@1Cast1FishThank you!!
@@1Cast1Fish One more quick question: How do I change the fish symbols to arches?? Thanks bunches!!!
Both of my local Evinrude dealers have quit servicing Evinrude motors and carrying BRP parts or service items, so I've switched to Lucas Marine Grease with great results - stays in place as well as Triple Guard grease and I can also use the Lucas grease on the trailer wheel bearings.
I used the Lucas on my old boat for the same reason...it was simpler to use 1 grease vs 2.
Subscribed! Great video! Thank you!
Awesome, thank you!
Thanks again Paul for these awesome tips. Which transducer would you recommend for the striker 4cv unit,I plan to fish at 1500ft max at sea. I don't have the resources to do a full upgrade but it would be nice to get a transducer that can go the depth or close to that dept.
So I always want to be as honest as possible with my opinions on questions like this. I personally would use the GT20 that comes with the 4CV, it is a upgrade over the standard transducer already. The truth is, even though the transducer may say a max depth of 1500ft, that is perfect conditions...that never really exist. Normally transducers are functional to about 1/2 to 3/4 of the advertised Max Depth. Sure they will go deeper, but I think performance starts to suffer. As for a new transducer, you will spend 200+ on a higher end transducer, more than the fish finder itself. I would save for a larger unit with a bigger screen for those depths over a new transducer. The bigger screen will help much more IMO for seeing targets, especially at those depths.
Newbie here...what's the difference between stained & dirty water? 6:05
If I drop my bait down and I can not see it after about 6 -8" then that is dirty If I drop my bait down and I can not see it after about 8-12" then that is stained
@@1Cast1Fish Okay but I’m my mind, if the lure can’t be seen after 12”, the water is just dirtier. LoL 😂
LOL....I think of stained as water with alot of tannins from wood and such...many of our rivers and lakes you can see this as well.
Thank you man! Great job
Thank You
how to set up to see the boat speed ??
The speed shown on the screen is the GPS Speed. This can be shown by adjusting your screen overlays
Can the alarm volume be increased? I can't find an option for that. It's way too quiet and really rely on that feature for anchoring and depth.
I don't think it can be
@1Cast1Fish That is unfortunate. I called Garmin also. They are aware that this is a problem for some users and may address the issue in future iterations of their product. In the meantime, I'll deal with it and enjoy the other features. Thanks for responding.
Your welcome, any questions just ask...I do my best to respond and help
Heading out next week and the boat I rent uses a lowrance unit. I usually just try and activate the “beep” to locate baitfish. Since it is a rental it’s tough to manage because so many hands have rearranged the settings it’s very frustrating and most of the time I can’t use it.
Factory reset it each time, that way you get to at least start at a common starting spot each time you use it....who knows what others have messed with.
